Color and foliage. Put them together and you have autumn. The green of summer turns into the beautiful colors of red, orange and yellow. We are heading into that direction soon in the Valley. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, the 2013 peak season for this area is October 12 through the end of October.
It’s a wonderful time of year to visit the Shenadoah Valley. Warm days and cool nights.

Take a hike at Crabtree Falls and enjoy the fall colors and cascading water falls.
Enjoy a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway overlooking mountains covered with colored trees.
Drive Route 56 up over the Blue Ridge to the Apple Orchards. Enjoy picking your own apples, buying fresh apple butter or applesauce, or walking through pumpkin patches. If you are visiting the area on October 19, stop at the Apple Butter Festival at Wades Mill. Lots of apple butter, food, wine and music.

Visit our Virginia wineries that are located within 30 minutes from us and do some wine tasting. Rockbridge Vineyards is celebrating their 21st annual Harvest Festival on October 5 with wine tasting, hayrides, grape stomping, and live music. Located only 2 miles from us, it won’t be a far drive.
