Steeles Tavern Manor and Alpine Hideaway Cottages are located only 6 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. While visiting us, some of you have stopped at Gertie’s Country Store on the way to the Blue Ridge along Route 56 to pick up something to eat. Did you know that Gertie’s recently finished in the top four in Blue Ridge Country Magazine’s: “BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY FOODIE TOUR”!
Proprietor’s Gertie and her daughter Tammy are two of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Sandwiches are wonderful. The barbeque sandwich with slaw is to die for! (this is Ray’s favorite). And before you leave, you can leave your mark on the wall. Yes, you are allowed to write on their wall. You’ll be leaving your name along with other visitors from all over the world.
Our Hiker’s Package features a Gertie’s voucher for a lunch for 2. Gertie or Tammy will prepare for you a freshly made sub sandwich of your choice with bag of chips. YUM!
So the next time you visit Alpine Hideaway Cottages or Steeles Tavern Manor, please make sure to stop in at Gertie’s. They are open Monday-Saturday 7am-8pm.
