The Shenandoah Valley is a vibrant hub of agricultural richness. The term “farm-to-table” gets tossed around as a trendy term meant to drive people in one way or another. But here, farm-to-table is a way of life. You’ll find no shortage of ways to immerse yourself in the region’s agricultural scene, but one of our favorite pastimes is visiting the many local farmers markets near Staunton, Lexington, and beyond. At these markets, you’ll find local growers and makers offering everything from seasonal produce and fresh-cut flowers to artisan cheeses, heritage meats, homemade baked goods, and small-batch preserves.
Many nearby farms also welcome guests for pick-your-own produce, apple pressing, or seasonal events like corn mazes and harvest festivals. Beyond the fields and orchards, the Shenandoah Valley offers plenty to entertain your taste buds. This part of Virginia is home to a growing number of boutique wineries and small-batch breweries, many of which offer tastings with a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Plan a relaxing afternoon sipping local varietals at Rockbridge Vineyard & Brewery, or sample creative craft brews at Devils Backbone Outpost Tap Room in Lexington. Foodies will love dining at restaurants that highlight local ingredients, like Maude and the Bear in Staunton.

Best Local Farmers Markets Near Our Virginia Cabins
The Staunton Farmers Market is one of the Shenandoah Valley’s best ways to experience the local flavor—literally and figuratively. Held every Saturday morning from April through November, with a special indoor winter market held throughout December, it’s one of our favorite local farmers markets near the Inn. The Staunton Farmers Market is held in the city’s historic Wharf District and is a lively gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. You’ll find over two dozen vendors offering a colorful mix of produce, meats, eggs, baked goods, fresh-cut flowers, and handmade crafts. Everything sold here is locally grown or produced, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and community.
What establishes the Staunton market as one of the best local farmers markets near our Inn is the close connection between farmer and shopper. You can chat with growers about how the produce was raised, pick up recipe tips, or learn about the latest seasonal specialties. Whether stocking up for the week or grabbing a pastry and coffee to enjoy in the morning sun, this market delivers a rich slice of local life.
In addition to being one of the best local farmers markets near the Inn and a fantastic agricultural hub for the community and regional farms, the Staunton Farmers Market also hosts weekly live music. The Music at the Market concert series is held each Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Of course, the Staunton Market is just the start of fantastic local farmers markets to explore. Here are a few others that we visit regularly when sourcing products for the Bed and Breakfast and Cabins.
- In Lexington, you’ll find another of our favorite local farmers markets near the cabins. The Lexington Farmers Market is open on Saturdays year-round and features seasonal produce, pastured meats, fresh bread, and handmade goods. It’s a relaxed space to browse and enjoy small-town charm while supporting Rockbridge-area growers and makers.
- Another great local market is the Waynesboro Farmers Market, just a short drive from Staunton. This farmers market features local veggies, eggs, dairy, and live music, and the riverside setting adds a fun, casual vibe to your Saturday morning shopping.
- We also love The Shops at Dayton Farmers Market. With about 20 shops and restaurants enclosed in a single building, plan a little time to explore the wide range of local purveyors selling handmade and/or specialty niche goods. It’s about 45 minutes from our Virginia cabins, but more than worth it!
- The Harrisonburg Farmers Market is also about 45 minutes away but features an incredible diversity of vendors at its twice-weekly market. You’ll find normal market vendors, in addition to things like Highland County maple syrup, wine, locally roasted coffee, herbal remedies, mushrooms, and so much more, making it one of the most comprehensive local farmers markets near Staunton.
- While you’re in the Harrisonburg area, check out the Shenandoah Heritage Market. It features unique shops selling everything from cooking and candy to antiques and toys, and you’ll even find Amish furniture here.
It’s not a farmers market, but we highly recommend you explore the farms, wineries, and vendors along the North Rockbridge Trail. The trail offers so much for locals and visitors, and is one of the best things to do in the Shenandoah Valley. Better yet, it’s right out the door of our magnificent Virginia cabins and features a wonderful mix of events and activities throughout the year.
