It’s Fair season in all of rural America and Rockbridge County VA is ready for their Regional Fair and Farm Show! This agricultural and fun event is held at the Virginia Horse Park beginning Wednesday, July 27th and running through Saturday, July 30th, 2016. Fair hours are 5 to 10 pm Wednesday through Friday and 2 to 10 pm on Saturday. There is a $5 parking fee each day and wristbands ($25) are needed for unlimited rides on the midway.
Some of the exhibits at the fair include a quilt show, horticultural show, youth floral designs, an art show, and of 4-H exhibits. You can learn more about the farming methods, agricultural community, and products of the Shenandoah Valley.
There will also be lots of great music and entertainment on stage each night of the fair. On Wednesday night, the Blue Ridge Mountain Cloggers will have you tapping your toes to their energetic dance performance. This group is based out of Christiansburg but has performed throughout the New River Valley and into the Shenandoah Valley. As the group says, “cloggers get a kick out of life” and you will get a kick out this fun entertainment.
Rocky Road Band will provide the music for your entertainment on Thursday night. This band is from Greenville, VA and the five guys who make up this group have years of musical experience. Rocky Road is well known up and down the Valley, playing at a number of clubs events. Come out to see this local band perform some of your favorite country-rock songs.
Come out for some real country music on Friday night performed by the Jody Pyles Band. The band will be traveling up from Mount Airy, NC and make you understand what country is all about!
Enjoy some “good ole” bluegrass music on Saturday night when Wound Tight takes the stage. You will hear some fine banjo playing, some great Dobro work, and more traditional guitar and bass. The music performed by this award winning group is characterized by tight vocal harmonies and expert acoustic string playing. Finish the entertainment at the fair with this high energy, foot-tapping music.
To add to the festivities, the Southern States Regional Fair Horse Show will be held at the same time. The horse show includes Saddlebred, Gaited, English, Walking, Western, and Mountain classes in the competition. Wander away from the midway long enough to take in at least one of the class competitions.
If you get hungry while at the fair, there will be lots of vendors with traditional “fair foods” for sale. Vendors will offer sandwiches, ice cream, cotton candy, and drinks to help you keep up your energy for all the activities at the Rockbridge Regional Fair and Farm Show. See you at the Fair!
