The wines of Virginia have become famous across the country and even globally. The Shenandoah Wine Trail is made-up of 23 wineries located up and down the Valley. From the northern-most member, Veramar Vineyard in Berryville, to the southern-most member, Blue Ridge Vineyard in Eagle Rock, VA, the trail spans about 175 miles. Here are several great vineyards located within an easy drive from Steeles Tavern Manor B&B and Alpine Hideaway Cottages.
Our favorite local winery is located in Raphine, VA – less than 5 minutes away from our B&B. Rockbridge Vineyard not only has wonderful wines, but they have fun events happening almost every weekend. On September 15thenjoy the oldies music of The Invasion as we “Rock the Barn” Dance. The Invasion is a British-invasion tribute band that plays tunes from the Beatles, the Dave Clark Five, the Rolling Stones, and other familiar groups from the golden age of Rock & Roll. Cover charge is $8 per person ($4 per current Wine Club member). The following day, enjoy the guitar renderings of Larry Heatwole while you play in a Cornhole Tournament. Food that day will be provided by Rock’s Money Pit – one of the best purveyors of BBQ in the area! On September 23, celebrate “Uncorked” with Kiz Carter & Juke Jack playing some smooth Blues music. The food will be prepared by Pure Eats. Events run from 1PM to 4PM. Plan to attend Rockbridge Vineyard’s 25thAnnual Harvest Festival on October 6th, 2018. From grape stomping to wine tasting, this is a day to celebrate the harvest with hayrides and live music too.
If you want to combine your wine tasting with some fine art exhibits, visit Ox-Eye Vineyards tasting room located in Staunton’s historic Wharf district. The building serving as home to the tasting room is of 1904 vintage and has been used by several businesses through the years until Ox-Eye renovated it in 2010. In the Upstairs Gallery the Estate winery is currently presenting an Art Exhibit called Painted Poems: Images of The Blue Ridgeby Gray Dodson.
