Tickets to the American Shakespeare Center
The American Shakespeare Center is home to the Blackfriar Playhouse, the only re-created version of Shakespeare’s original indoor theatre, is a stunning performing arts venue. This theatre, which opened its doors in 2001, hosts up to 14 performances each year, and to date, has held more than 5, 700 performances on its intimate stage. The original Blackfriar Playhouse was housed in a 13th-century monastery. Shakespeare held performances there starting in 1608 until the theatre burned down in the Great Fire of London in 1666.
The Blackfriars Playhouse at the American Shakespeare Center is open year-round, hosting 5 different seasons of performances throughout the year. There are at least 3 distinct companies of actors throughout the seasons, but each performance is done in repertory with troupe members playing multiple roles in each show.
The remainder of the 2021 season at the American Shakespeare Center’s Blackfriar Playhouse promises to be nothing short of fantastic and includes the following shows: Macbeth, Henry V, All’s Well That Ends Well, and a non-Shakespeare performance of A Christmas Carol in December!
