There are plenty of ways to enjoy these vibrant hues of fall colors on the Blue Ridge Parkway, too. From scenic drives through the countryside to hikes deep into the wilderness, we’d love to share our favorite ways to enjoy Blue Ridge Parkway fall colors.
- One of our favorite ways to enjoy the Blue Ridge Parkway fall colors is hiking at Peaks of Otter. It’s one of the most popular destinations along the Parkway, and it’s easy to see why. Set out on the hike to the top of Sharp Top Mountain, and you’ll be rewarded with a stunning 360-degree view of the valley below.
- Another easy but colorful hike is the 1.75-mile Johnson Farm Trail. The trail is beautiful and offers pastoral views of the restored farmhouse, antique farm equipment, barn, and more – and it’s even more beautiful when fall colors pop along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
- Take a picnic and hike to Crabtree Falls, one of our favorite places to send guests for an afternoon. Other incredible waterfalls include White Rock Falls, Wigwam Falls, Apple Orchard Falls, and Fallingwater Cascades.
- There are many apple orchards in the Nelson County area. Not only is apple picking a time-honored fall tradition, but it’s also a great place to experience the seasonal beauty of fall.
- Another excellent hike for Blue Ridge Parkway fall colors is the Humpback Rocks Trail. At 7.8 miles roundtrip, it’s one of the longest trails in the area, but it’s more than worth it.
- Take one of the many scenic drives near our Shenandoah Valle cabins, soaking in the stunning Blue Ridge Parkway fall colors as you go. You can spend entire days driving, but it’s always worth it because, on clear days, you can see upward of 50 miles!
