However you approach the drive, we’ve listed some of our favorite Blue Ridge Parkway waterfalls for you to enjoy along the way, starting in the south near Asheville and stretching north toward our Bed and Breakfast in Virginia.
- In the Asheville area of North Caroline, we recommend hiking to Graveyard Fields waterfall. It’s not only a beautiful waterfall, but it was one of the first hikes accessible from the Blue Ridge Parkway, which makes it a perennial favorite for everyone doing this scenic drive.
- Head to the Craggy Gardens area and you’ll find another favorite among Blue Ridge Parkway waterfalls, Douglas Falls. This 70-foot waterfall drops over a cliff, giving visitors the opportunity to walk behind the cascade for gorgeous photo ops.
- Though the most common view of Glassmine Falls comes from the overlook at quite a long distance, it’s still impressive. Like many Blue Ridge Parkway waterfalls, this one is best seen after heavy rains.
- One of the most famous Blue Ridge Parkway waterfalls is Linville Falls. It’s a three-tier waterfall that tumbles into the scenic Linville Gorge, a feature of the Blue Ridge Parkway known as the “Grand Canyon of the Southern Appalachians.” It’s truly a breathtaking sight to behold, and worth the moderate to strenuous hike to get there.
- Boone Fork Falls, also referred to as Hebron Falls, is another great option among Blue Ridge Parkway waterfalls. Boone Fork Falls is a 25-foot waterfall, and the hike also features a number of cascading creeks and beautiful scenery to enjoy.
- Fallingwater Cascades is one of the first Blue Ridge Parkway waterfalls in Virginia (if you’re coming from the south), and it’s reached by an easy but worthwhile hike.
- Just up the road from Fallingwater Cascades is Apple Orchard Falls, one of the more impressive Blue Ridge Parkway waterfalls. This waterfall tumbles 200 feet, and is considered one of the best waterfalls in Virginia.
- As you continue north on the Blue Ridge Parkway, you’ll encounter Wigwam Falls, which is located at the Yankee Horse Ridge Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s a lovely hike to what is considered one of the easiest to access Blue Ridge Parkway waterfalls in Virginia.
- Near Waynesboro, you’ll find the scenic White Rock Falls, complete with beautiful cascades and a watering hole that is perfect for a summer swim.
- Finally, don’t miss one of our favorite hikes, Crabtree Falls in Virginia. Combined, this multi-tiered waterfall is the tallest east of the Mississippi. It’s a fantastic hike and a great place to enjoy a picnic, which we’ll happily pack for you.
