Things to do in the Shenandoah Valley This Winter
By now, you can see how easy it would be to spend a few days doing nothing but luxuriating in our gorgeous guest rooms and walking our beautiful grounds – leaving only for meals and maybe some light activity. However, it’s also hard to resist the lure of the Shenandoah Valley, its charming towns, the many excellent local wineries, breweries, and restaurants, and all the other things to do in the area.
The towns of Staunton and Lexington – both about 20 minutes away, both of which are great towns with plenty to see and do – not to mention some really great restaurants! Here are our top recommendations for things to do in the Shenandoah Valley this winter.
- Winter is still a great time to hike, and there are plenty of trails around us, including trails in Shenandoah National Park, Crabtree Falls on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and other trails in the Staunton and Lexington areas.
- After a big snowstorm, these same trails are great for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, and there are even more great options for winter sports in both the Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
- Hop in your car and take in some of the best scenery in the area along either Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park or the Blue Ridge Parkway.
- Enjoy a little wine tasting at local wineries, or visit a local brewery for delicious craft beer. One of our favorites is Rockbridge Vineyard & Brewery.
- Wine and dine your sweetheart at one of Staunton’s top-rated restaurants. Before dinner, do a little shopping in town. Its Main Street has been nationally recognized and features over 100 unique boutiques, artisan studios, antique shops, and galleries.
- Explore the charming downtown of Lexington, filled with quaint shops, plenty of historic architecture to admire, great restaurants, and so many other things to do.
