If you plan a romantic cabin getaway in Virginia with us, you’ll be in the heart of some of the most popular attractions in the Shenandoah Valley. To the north of us is Shenandoah National Park, home to Skyline Drive and some of the most breathtaking Shenandoah fall foliage. But that’s not all – we’re also near the northern end of the famed Blue Ridge Parkway, called America’s favorite scenic drive because of the spectacular fall foliage found along all 400+ miles of this dedicated byway.
As great as these two attractions are, you don’t even have to leave our property to enjoy some of the best Shenandoah fall foliage. It’s truly everywhere you turn, which is one of the best reasons to plan a romantic cabin getaway in Virginia this fall. We’ll start to see hints of the colorful season ahead, starting in mid-September. It will reach peak color by early October, but given that we enjoy one of the longest foliage seasons in the country, you can expect the season to stretch into early (or mid) November.
You can’t go wrong when it comes to admiring the best Shenandoah fall foliage, but we’ve listed some of our favorite ways to get out and enjoy the season below.
- A scenic drive along Skyline Drive is one of the best ways to experience the magnificent colors in Shenandoah National Park. This famed drive is 105 miles, offering access to some of the most popular parts of the park. It’s busy in the fall, though, so you can expect to spend at least three hours here, more if you stop at many overlooks. There are 75 of them!
- You can get up close and personal with Shenandoah fall foliage by hiking in Shenandoah National Park. There are so many great Shenandoah National Park hiking trails, but the Stony Man Trail is among the most popular.
- You can also enjoy fantastic hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway, including at the Peaks of Otter area. The best hike here is Sharp Top Mountain, where you’ll enjoy a 360-degree view of the Blue Ridge Parkway and all the glorious Shenandoah fall foliage below. Other great hikes along the Blue Ridge Parkway include Humpback Gap Overlook and Humpback Rocks.
- If you want great views from the Blue Ridge Parkway without hiking, head to the Apple Orchard Mountain Overlook. This is the highest point along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia and a great place to admire the colorful Shenandoah fall foliage.
- Blue Ridge Parkway waterfalls are never more beautiful than they are in the fall. There are plenty of great falls, but our favorite is Crabtree Falls VA. Don’t forget to have us pack you a picnic to enjoy at the falls, too!
- Visit our friends along the North Rockbridge Trail in the fall. There, you’ll find plenty of fantastic farms, markets, and artisans offering a fantastic representation of the Shenandoah Valley’s rich culture and agricultural history.
- Enjoy some wine or beer at Rockbridge Vineyard & Brewery. It’s a wonderful place to enjoy a fall afternoon and is one of many fantastic Shenandoah Valley wineries near our cabins in Virginia. Fall is an excellent time for a bit of agritourism in the Shenandoah Valley. Don’t miss the chance to visit local farms, markets, and orchards during this annual season of harvest!
- For some truly exceptional views of fall in Virginia, take a ride on the stunning Virginia Scenic Railway. It’s the only regularly scheduled tourist train in the state and offers an unprecedented opportunity to ride through to stunning Shenandoah Valley – a journey beautiful any time of year but particularly magnificent in fall!
- Head to Natural Bridge State Park and admire the unique geological formation here, surrounded by gorgeous hues of Shenandoah fall foliage. This park is also an exceptional place for late-night stargazing, as it’s one of the few Dark Sky Parks identified by the International Dark Sky Association.
- Finally, take the time to relax and enjoy the trails, pond, and other amenities on our property – having access to these beautiful grounds is one of the many reasons we’re the best romantic cabin getaway in Virginia!
